about
The genocide in Rwanda in 1994 can be remembered as one of the most stark examples of government orchestrated atrocity . Murder was not only tolerated but encouraged from the pulpit and through radio broadcasts, resulting in the deaths of between 500,000 and 1,000,000 people. After the initial massacres the new Rwandan government soldiers, many of who were related to those who had been murdered, carried out even more mass-killing in Refugee camps, often run by known leaders of the genocide. These deaths were thought to be in the thousands and constituted yet another example of state sanctioned massacres on civilian populations. I realise the fact that a lot of punk lyrics have become a photocopy of a photocopy in their use of horrific imagery and metaphors concerning death and war. I was driven to write this song after reading a book called Crimes of War, a title which seems a hypocrisy in itself, but which shed a terrifying light on so many of the worlds injustices. As we look at the turmoil that exists in our world today, from the ongoing murder of civilians by the military in Gaza to the State-sponsored death squads emerging in Syria, we see the that governments around the world see further genocide as nothing but a tool to reach their own sickening ends.

lyrics
ORCHESTRATED BUTCHERY
School Yard mortuaries
Churches filled with blood
“The victims covered the floor
in a carpet of rotting death”
Twisted architects of genocide
Calculated extermination
Horror unimaginable
Cities become fields of human slaughter
The world does not hold its breath
Many do not even blink
Orchestrated Butchery
Yet another scar across humanity
For two months of horror the machete ruled the streets
Slowly sinking in blackened pits
Bodies caked in lime
The ashen face of modern war
Stares out of dead black eyes
And now we march forever forward
To yet another genocide
Orchestrated Butchery
What a tragic waste of life
