about
"Free Blood" was the name given to the children who constantly tried to escape from industrial schools. The industrial school system existed in Ireland up until the early 1970s. Thousands of children were incarcerated for crimes/sins such as being poor, petty theft or coming from a one parent family. The horrors that took place in these institutions is well documented. But even if a child was lucky enough to escape physical/sexual torment the very fact they were confined for any length of time and deemed to be guilty of something is unacceptable and would have long lasting emotional effects on an individual. There was probably one in your town. i think it's important to inform ourselves about this unsavory history and consider the consequences. Jemmy Gunnery was a Dublin man who spent time in an industrial school as a child.Years later he helped kids from his community escape these institutions.

lyrics
Free Blood
invisible in plain sight
church and state condemned
they stood cold and cruel
prisons posed as schools
innocence, identity
stolen by the celibate elite
the names evoke a curse
on children guilty of poverty
an army of ragged slaves
caged and condemned
worthless to society
but on each head a bounty
the gates to hell are guarded
by misled servants of christ
free blood
one scrawny boy returns a man
his nightmare is over
but the gulag still exists
Polish noise-crust outfit eschews the big Tragedy-esque riffs still popular with their US counterparts for scratchy claustrophobia. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 2, 2016
The Chicago punks seem intent on defying any hardcore conventions, focusing instead on communicating pure disgust for the rotting world around them. Bandcamp Album of the Day Jul 1, 2022
